In France, heavy-duty vehicles are responsible for almost 28% of land transport emissions (+ 15% as compared to 1990’s level). In order to tackle this challenge, the European Commission has proposed a tightening of CO2 emission standards for heavy duty vehicles (HDVs), with a decarbonisation target of 90% of new vehicles sold by 2040.
In this context, EdEn’s study “Electric roads: it’s time to get ready” calls on France and the European Union to speed up and promote testing and project calls for electric road solutions (ERS – Electric Road Systems), to be ready for the 2040 European target.
The study assesses the various technologies available and the advantages and disadvantages of each possible pathway.
